The Best Family Hotels in Bali

Planning a Bali family holiday but feeling overwhelmed by all the options of where to stay? We’re here to help with our pick of the best family hotels in Bali.

Nusa Dua beach.

Bali is such a popular destination for a family vacation, and with reason. This laid-back tropical island has it all: beautiful beaches, fabulous restaurants, fun activities, amazing boutique shopping and, of course, plenty of family-friendly hotels.

Where to Stay in Bali for Families

There are many distinctive parts of the island, and each different area in Bali offers its own unique selling points for a family holiday. So it all really depends on what your preferences are.

Here is a quick breakdown of some of the most popular areas in Bali and what attracts people:

  • Nusa Dua: Mostly large resorts. Great beach for kids with calm water. Most restaurants are located within the hotels and most people tend to stay within their resort rather than head out to dine. Perfect for a flop and drop holiday.
  • Seminyak: Trendy and stylish with a wide range of upscale restaurants, beach clubs, boutique shopping, and vibrant nightlife. The beach is wide and good for surfing, though the waves can be rough for young kids. Pick a hotel with a good pool.
  • Sanur: Quieter than some other areas of Bali but still has a good choice of restaurants, cafes and shops. Great beach for families with calm water and an 8km beach promenade makes it easy to explore on foot or by bike.
  • Ubud: Known as Bali’s cultural and spiritual heart, it is surrounded by lush rice terraces and jungle. Known for art galleries, temples, wellness resorts, and a more relaxed pace of life. No beach here, but plenty of nature-based activities, markets, and traditional performances.
  • Uluwatu: Dramatic cliffs, world-class surf, and stunning ocean views define this laid-back area. Home to iconic beach clubs, luxe cliffside villas, and the famous Uluwatu Temple. Best for surfers and those wanting a quieter, scenic escape. Not ideal for swimming due to strong currents and rocky shores.

Let’s take a look at some of the best family resorts and hotels in these areas.

Nusa Dua Beach

Nusa Dua is the place to stay in Bali for families who are dreaming of white sandy beaches and the ease of a resort holiday.

You won’t experience a lot of local culture here, but it does have some of Bali’s best beach resorts for families. Equally, most Nusa Dua restaurants are found within these resorts, so not many local culinary experiences on offer.

However, if you are looking for some downtime, an easy resort holiday and some fun family time, then Nusa Dua ticks all the boxes.

The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua

Westin Nusa Dua swimming pool.

The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua is set on a beautiful white sand beach overlooking the Indian Ocean. This Nusa Dua hotel features 433 modern luxury rooms (currently undergoing a refurbishment at the time of writing).

Most room categories allow for two double beds in one room, and interconnecting rooms are also available, meaning lots of flexibility for families. You can also request a rollaway bed or a crib in most room categories.

If you want to live it up a little, then check out the Family Sute a two-bedroom/two-bathroom suite with a separate living area.

Westin Nusa Dua beachfront.

There are seven bars and restaurants to choose from, including Japanese, Italian and Asian. Our favourite is the breezy beachside Indonesian Ikan restaurant, where you can dine on delicious local seafood to the sounds of the ocean.

It’s also an easy walk along the beachfront to the Laguna, the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel and the Sofitel if you want to change up the restaurants one evening.

Another reason we love the Westin is its wealth of kid-friendly facilities. As well as the gorgeous beach, there are also three swimming pools – one with a 12-metre waterslide, plus a Kids Club and even a Kids Spa offering mini-manicures and hair braiding.

The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas

Mulia Resort swimming pool.

The Mulia, Mulia Resort & Villas – Nusa Dua, Bali is a luxurious beachfront resort that sprawls across a prime stretch of white sand in Nusa Dua, offering sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

The resort offers a wide range of accommodation options across its three distinct properties – The Mulia (luxury suites), Mulia Resort (the main hotel), and Mulia Villas (private pool villas) – giving families plenty of choice depending on the level of luxury, space and privacy they’re after.

Many rooms have the option to feature two double beds, and interconnecting rooms are available, making it a great option for families. Larger families or those wanting more space can opt for a two-bedroom villa, complete with private pool, outdoor dining area, and butler service.

Mulia Resort hotel suite.

The highlight for most families will be the swimming pools – yes, multiple swimming pools! The enormous main pool overlooking the beach is the real hit with most families, with plenty of shallow areas and a swim up bar.

The kids’ splash pool with fountains is perfect for little ones and there are three separate Kids Clubs for different age groups.

You can watch my Instagram Reel here to get a better feel for the resort:

Foodies are spoiled for choice here with nine restaurants and bars, including Japanese, Cantonese, pan-Asian, and Mediterranean options. If you love a buffet, then you’re in for a treat at The Mulia! Their buffets are super-sized and very impressive.

We also love Soleil, their beachfront signature restaurant known for its decadent weekend brunch and Mediterranean flavours. The Sky Bar is perfect for a sunset cocktail, and there’s even a luxury French patisserie on site, for any sweet cravings.

The Grand Hyatt Bali

Grand Hyatt Bali.

The Grand Hyatt Bali is another large family-friendly resort in Nusa Dua, with 636 rooms and suites set amid 42 acres of tropical gardens and lagoons.

There are plenty of options for family accommodation, including interconnecting rooms and sofa beds. But the pick of the bunch goes to the themed family rooms. Available as a Mermaid or Pirate theme, these feature two bedrooms, with a themed kids’ room.

Grand Hyatt Bali bedroom.

There are facilities galore here, including eight bars and restaurants, three tennis courts, fitness centre, spa and five swimming pools. The kids will particularly love the River Pool, which features two water slides to play on.

When they tire of building sandcastles and whizzing down the waterslides, drop them off at the Kids Club (kids aged 3-12 welcome), with its full range of activities.

Other family-friendly Nusa Dua Hotels to consider:

  • The Laguna, A Luxury Collection Resort & Spa Nusa Dua: Recently updated, this resort offers spacious rooms, suites and villas, seven lagoon-shaped swimming pools, six restaurants and bars, spa and tennis centre.
  • Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua: Beautiful 5-star beachfront property with a good choice of bars and restaurants, swimming pools and kids club.
  • St Regis Bali Resort: Less obviously family friendly. But if you’re looking for ultra-luxury with a stunning beach and high-end restaurants, this is for you. Kids will enjoy the expansive saltwater lagoon and Children’s Learning Centre (kids club).

The Best Hotels in Seminyak for Families

Seminyak Sunset.

Seminyak is the high-end restaurant, shopping and spa capital of Bali.

This is where you will find celebrity chef restaurants, trendy bars and boutiques and a host of fun beach bars for sunset. Personally, I love Seminyak, mainly because of all the awesome restaurants!

But it doesn’t have the best beaches for families – the waves are usually too rough and the black sand is less appealing than those white sandy stretches in Nusa Dua or Sanur.

For all the above reasons, there are less obviously ‘family’ hotels in Seminyak (not so many kids clubs in Seminyak hotels). But if, like me, you can’t resist those fabulous restaurants, bars and boutiques, then here is our pick of the best Seminyak family resorts:

Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach

Hotel Indigo Bali pool.

Hotel Indigo is everything you want from a Seminyak hotel – it’s funky and trendy, has a beachfront setting, awesome swimming pools and fantastic restaurants.

It’s also just a short walk from some of Seminyak’s most popular sunset bars, and the hotel shuttle will deliver you to Seminyak Village shopping mall in just around 15 minutes.

There’s a variety of accommodation to suit families, including interconnecting rooms and suites and also 1- and 2-bedroom villas. We particularly like the Courtyard Access rooms that give easy access to the swimming pool just steps from your private terrace.

You can watch my Instagram Reel here to get a better feel for the resort:

And you’re in for a treat when it comes to the swimming pools – three of them, each with their own vibe. Our favourite is hands down the Secret Garden Pool with its serene rainforest vibe and funky lounge seats.

Hotel Indigo Bali swimmin pool.

You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to eating out in Seminyak, but if you want to just hang in the hotel, you have good options too, with six bars and restaurants.

We particularly like Southeast Asian Makase and the beautiful beachfront SugarSand, dishing up Japanese izakaya-inspired dishes. Both have kids menus too.

There’s no kids club but they do have garden games such as Giant Jenga and Cornhole, as well as a schedule of resort activities. This offers a wide range of free-of-charge activities, such as Qi Gong, Yoga, Mocktail Making and Resin Art.

W Bali – Seminyak

W hotel Bali pool.

The W Bali -Seminyak is a super-stylish resort, right on the beach in Seminyak and in amongst Seminyak’s best bars and restaurants. With its super-cool DJ-led Woo bar and cocktail culture, this is not an obvious choice for a child-friendly hotel in Bali.

There’s no kids club here, and no water slides to zip down. However, if you’re not bothered about kids clubs and waterslides, the W Bali is a surprisingly good option for a family hotel in Seminyak.

The staff are amazing with the kids, and they have a toy box in the restaurant. The beautiful tiered swimming pool should keep the kids happy and there are plenty of grassy lawns to run around on.

There are 229 retreats, suites and villas to choose from, but we particularly like the pool villas for families.

W Hotel Bali villa.

Here you are protected from the noise of the resort and you can enjoy a private pool and sundeck – perfect for quiet sunbathing if you have young children who still do daytime naps, or for a quick cool-off after sightseeing.

The two- and three-bedroom villas also include BBQ facilities for private at-home dining under the stars.

Other family-friendly Seminyak Hotels to consider:

  • Alila Seminyak: High-end luxury resort located beachfront and right in the heart of Seminyak close to restaurants and shops. It has five infinity pools, including a family pool and a Kids Club. The Beach Bar is a definite hot spot for sundowners.
  • Seminyak Beach Resort: Another option if you want to be beachfront and in the heart of the action. It offers spacious interconnecting room and villas plus all the facilities you could want, including a 45m infinity pool overlooking the beach.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Bali Seminyak Resort: If you’re looking for a more cost-effective option, and don’t mind not being absolute beachfront, then this is a great option. It has a choice of rooms, including family rooms and 2-bedroom suites, plus an awesome swimming pool complete with sunken bar.

Best Hotels in Sanur for Families

Sanur Beach.

Sanur is a great choice for families looking for a quieter family holiday in Bali.

Once a fishing village, Sanur remains more laid back and less built up than the beaches on the West Coast, although recent development means you can still find a good choice of family accommodation, as well as a range of restaurants and shops (there’s even a new shopping mall).

Sanur Beach stretches for 8km and is protected by the reef, meaning the water is calm for kids to splash about in and makes water sports such as kayaking and paddle boarding easy.

The beachfront sidewalk is popular with both joggers and cyclists, and hiring bikes is a great way to get out and explore as a family.

If you are considering Sanur for your family holiday, here’s our pick of where to stay.

Hyatt Regency Bali

Hyatt Regency Sanur beachfront.

There’s no denying you’re in Bali when you enter the Hyatt Regency in Sanur, thanks to its lush tropical surroundings, traditional architecture and Balinese music everywhere you go.

They offer spacious rooms, including interconnecting rooms and family suites in all manner of configurations.

My hot tip would be to upgrade to a room with Club Access. This gives you access to the Club Lounge, where you can not only enjoy a more relaxed breakfast but are also treated to a very generous evening cocktail hour, including a full buffet.

Hyatt Regency Sanur beach restaurant.

Beyond the Club Lounge, there are two other restaurants to choose from: the all-day Indonesian and grill restaurant Omang Omang and beachfront Pizzaria, dishing up wood-fired pizza and other Italian favourites.

If you prefer to venture out beyond the resort to dine, there are loads of options on your doorstep. These restaurants at other nearby hotels (you can charge back to your room at next-door Andaz) as well as plenty of local cafes, restaurants and warungs.

When it comes to facilities, the whole family is catered for, with several swimming pools, a large gym, beautiful spa and large Kids Club.

Meru Sanur

Meru Sanur swimming pool.

The Meru Sanur is a beautiful luxury all-suite hotel located at the northern end of the Sanur beach stretch. With a focus on wellness, connecting with nature and relaxation, it might not seem on the surface to be a particularly family-friendly option.

But don’t be fooled – there is plenty for families at this Sanur hotel, including a Kids Club and a whole schedule of kid-friendly activities.

Meru Sanur suite bedroom.

Suites are spacious and luxurious (no interconnecting rooms though), there are two enormous pools to play in, including one with a shallow area perfect for little ones, and there is plenty of lawn space for running around on.

Regardless of which pool you are relaxing by, you are just steps from beautiful Sanur beach, and it’s easy to explore the neighbourhood along the beach promenade using the hotel bikes (kids bikes available too).

You can watch my Instagram Reel here to get a better feel for the resort:

Meru Sanur beach bar.

There are five bars and restaurants to choose from, including an impressive breakfast buffet at Arunika and some exceptional Indonesian food at Roso. If you prefer to venture outside, you’ll find plenty of bars, restaurants and warungs close by.

Other family-friendly Sanur Hotels to consider:

  • Intercontinental Bali Sanur Resort by IHG: Another beautiful option on the Sanur scene, The Intercontinental offers luxurious suites and villas in the heart of Sanur. As well as the main pool, there are two kids’ pools and a large air-conditioned kids’ club.
  • Maya Sanur: All the rooms at the Maya are spacious and adaptable for families, with the choice of 2 doubled beds and interconnecting rooms. When it comes to entertaining the kids, Maya has it all. It has four pools, including a family pool and a kids pool, a kids playground and an indoor kids’ club.
  • Andaz Bali, by Hyatt: Located right next door to the Hyatt Regency, and sharing some facilities, the Andaz offers a more cost-effective option to its bigger brother next door. It offers spacious rooms, suites and villas, a kids club, on site restaurants and a lovely beachfront swimming pool.

The Best Family hotels in Ubud

Rice terracs Ubud.

If the Bali you dream of features infinity pools overlooking the rice paddies, wandering around temples and immersing yourself in local culture, then Ubud is the place for you.

Ubud is Seminyak’s laid-back cousin. You will still find a good selection of restaurants and bars, but everybody heads home to bed early in sleepy Ubud, so they can be up early to hike the rice terraces and visit the temples.

If this sounds like Bali heaven to you – then check out our pick of the best family friendly hotels in Ubud below.

Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali

Westin Hotel Ubud.

Located within easy reach of Ubud town centre (although Ubud traffic is getting increasingly bad) and yet enjoying a tranquil rural setting, the Westin Ubud is a great option for families.

The highlight, of course, is that infinity pool, snaking along the edge of the forest, made even better by the pool bar.

There is a good range of room options for families, including interconnecting rooms, larger suites and even two-bedroom family villas with separate living area.

Westin Hotel Ubud hotel room.

The Kids Club welcomes kids aged 4-12 and has its own shallow kid-friendly pool. It also has a good range of activities taking place throughout the day that kids can opt into.

If you can’t face the short drive into Ubud for dinner, then you have two great options on site at the hotel: Tabia, offering buffet breakfasts and dinners and Tall Trees, a Mediterranean restaurant overlooking the pool and surrounding forest.

Padma Resort Ubud

Padma Resort Ubud swimming pool.

The Padma Resort Ubud offers luxury Ubud family accommodation, just north of Ubud. This 149-room hotel is set within 11-hectares of tropical gardens and boasts stunning views over the bamboo forests.

The highlight of this Ubud family hotel is its fabulous 89-metre infinity swimming pool overlooking the forest, with a gorgeous swim-up bar, perfect for lazy sunny days.

Padma Resort Ubud restaurant.

There are two restaurants, a Kids Club, a fully-equipped gymnasium and even a 1.5km jogging track, which winds its way through the bamboo forest.

The Wolly Kids Club, although small, is very well equipped, with train sets, Lego, computer games, books and dolls galore. There’s even a bunk bed room for naps! Most importantly, the hands-on staff are brilliant with the kids.

Other family-friendly Ubud Hotels to consider:

  • Four Seasons Bali at Sayan: If you have cash to splash, this 60-room luxury resort, hidden amongst the rice terraces, is a treasure. It offers spacious Family Suites, a gorgeous two-level swimming pool, and a fantastic Kids Club, Pici Pici, for kids aged 4-12.
  • Plataran Ubud Hotel & Spa: Offers a tranquil retreat right in the heart of Ubud (good for avoiding those traffic jams). The hotel has two infinity pools and a small Kids Club, plus fish to feed and sheep and rabbits to visit. The cookery class is another fun activity for families.

Family Villas in Bali

Private villa in Bali.

Another great option for family accommodation in Bali is to rent a private Villa. This gives you more space and privacy and is a great option for many families holidaying together.

Villas can suit all budgets and some luxury villas even come with a chef and staff to ensure you have a relaxing and fun holiday.

Glad to know you can take the kids!! We always travel with our two – ages 10 and 12 now. They are master travelers as they’ve been on the move since they were tiny!! • Definitely – I think a lot of people think Bali will be too touristy and so avoid going there. And while there are a lot of tourists there it is still a wonderful place to visit and the people are so welcoming. I love Bali!
