Families will love the spacious grounds, the beautiful swimming pools, the choice of restaurants and the proximity to the beach.
I recently checked in with my two kids to check it out.

Arriving at Hotel Indigo
Despite having 270 rooms and expansive grounds, Hotel Indigo has a warm boutique hotel vibe, thanks to its eclectic interiors, blending Balinese tradition and contemporary design.
We are immediately drawn into the hotel lobby, a feast for the eyes, affectionately dubbed the ‘neighbourhood gallery’.
Inspired by the ‘banjar’ lifestyle (the Balinese concept of village living ) this space pays a contemporary homage to a traditional Indonesian village square, where villagers bring their own chairs to meet under the trees.
The shelves are brimming with local artefacts, each promising a colourful local story to be told.
Even the striking geometric wooden roof design reflects the traditional Balinese songket weaving technique, while the brass hanging lamps draw inspiration from the floating lanterns released into the air on nearby Seminyak beach.
The attention to detail is mindblowing and it perfectly blends the culture of the Balinese people with the cool beachside vibe of Seminyak, setting the tone of the eclectic and vibrant design that permeates the resort.
We can’t wait to explore.

Hotel Location
If you’re looking for a Seminyak getaway, you couldn’t ask for a better location. Hotel Indigo is located right on Seminyak Beach, offering easy beach access and front-row seats to those famous Bali sunsets.
Step outside the hotel and you’re moments away from some of Seminyak’s most popular sunset beach bars and a good selection of cafes, restaurants and shops.
The shopping mall Seminyak Village is around a 10-minute Grab or Gojek away (read my article Tips for Visiting Bali), and the hotel also offers a shuttle bus here twice a day.
Despite its proximity to the bustle of Seminyak, the resort itself feels wonderfully peaceful and secluded, thanks to its lush landscaping and meandering layout, offering you the best of both worlds.
Transfer time from Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport is around 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

Rooms at Hotel Indigo Bali
There are 270 rooms and suites at the Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach. Those looking for more space and privacy, can opt for one of the nineteen Private Pool Villas, which benefit from extra luxuries like outdoor tubs, private pools, and dedicated butler service.
Ours are Standard Courtyard Access Rooms, located on the ground floor and giving us direct access to the pathway that leads to the pool and restaurants.
Our two rooms are located next door to each other, but there are interconnecting rooms available for those travelling with younger kids.
The rooms are spacious and luxurious, with a very comfortable King bed and a separate seating area with a sofa and coffee table. Sliding doors open out onto a private terrace where we can spot the swimming pool through the foliage.
The fun and funky design from the lobby is extended into the bedroom, with bright pops of colour from the cushions and traditional Balinese design seen on the wall panels and reflected in the bedside tables and lamps.
The large walk-in rain shower also features mosaic wall tiles inspired by traditional Batik prints.
The bathroom is stocked with premium products from local supplier Republic of Soap and can be separated from the bedroom using sliding doors for privacy, or left open to enhance the feeling of space.
There’s also a sizeable walk-in wardrobe with plenty of hanging and drawer space, making it easy to tuck the suitcases away from view. There’s a large TV and narrow desk area.
I particularly love the Punch & Munch bar, the cutely named mini bar that features funky and colourful mugs from Kevala Ceramics and a bottle of local Arak with a cocktail shaker and ‘Balixology’ recipes.

Hotel Facilities
Hotel Indigo is designed around a lush, tropical garden that winds its way through the property, enhancing the ‘neighbourhood village’ feel.
The centrepiece is the main swimming pool, stretching through the trees towards the ocean. There are plenty of sun loungers, from which you can order poolside refreshments from the nearby Cave pool bar.
There’s a fun and social vibe here throughout the day.
Those preferring more privacy can seek out some of the hidden ‘caves’ dotted around the pool, or bag themselves one of the secluded cabanas, decked out with large double day beds.
Our favourite spot by far is the Secret Garden pool, a peaceful jungle oasis just steps from our hotel room.
This is considered to be the ‘quiet’ pool, the only noise coming from the trickling water fountains, so if you have kids who like to splash and play, they’d be better suited to the main pool.
We alternate our time between chilling on the rattan loungers while sipping on a signature pink Hotel Indigo coconut and gently drifting around on one of the brightly coloured floating bean bags.
The only reason I can think of to drag myself away from this gorgeous setting is for a massage at the stunning Sava Spa, once crowned the Best Spa in a 5-star Resort in Indonesia.
It features ten private treatment rooms, in addition to a manicure and pedicure parlour and a complete menu of pampering treatments.
My husband and I opt for a couple’s room and are treated to a relaxing foot bath before a blissful 60-minute Sava Balinese Signature massage. The post-treatment lounge is the perfect space to unwind as we sip ginger tea to the sound of the trickling water feature.
There’s also a fully equipped fitness centre, but I am far too relaxed to contemplate setting foot in there.
If you are looking for a more active holiday, though, there is a full program of daily activities, both complimentary and paid. These include daily morning yoga sessions, art classes, neighbourhood cycles and breathwork & sound healing sessions.
Unfortunately we are not staying on a Friday or we would have signed up for Puppy Yoga, where you can share your yoga mat with a cute puppy from the local rescue .
For families, there’s no official kids club, but the daily activities include several kid-friendly options, including pool games, art classes, cupcake decorating and pizza making.
There are also garden games set up on the lawn, such as Giant Jenga and Cornhole.

Food & Drink
Food at Hotel Indigo is a real highlight. On arrival, we make our way directly to Makase restaurant, a stunning setting that continues the eclectic aesthetic from the upstairs lobby.
The Makase restaurant serves up delicious Southeast Asian and Indonesian fare with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. We feast on spicy and flavourful Beef Rendang, succulent Crispy Pork Ribs with a nam jim dip, traditional Nasi Goreng Kampung and a soothing Vietnamese Pho Bo.
It’s a great start to our stay.
We return to Makase for breakfast the next morning, where we are blown away by the buffet. Everything is on offer, from tropical fruit and pastries to made-to-order eggs, fresh juices, and spicy local Balinese dishes.
But we are even more impressed by the attention to detail afforded to the presentation, with cute little grab-and-go pots and bottles of juice and beautifully presented main dishes.
Breakfast can also be enjoyed at the other main restaurant, SugarSand. Here, breakfast is served a la carte, with a Japanese twist and an ocean view.
If you’re not up for Chawanmushi and Okonomoyaki for breakfast, there are plenty of Western dishes to choose from, including waffles, eggs and bircher muesli, or you can go local with a Bubur Ayam.
It’s a quieter, more laid-back beachfront vibe and we enjoy our coffee with an ocean view, although the kids are hankering for the Makase buffet.
We return to SugarSand for lunch, where we enjoy the Seminyak beach club vibe of the restaurant. Tables overlook the beach and there are poolside day beds where you can kick back and enjoy the sunshine before or after lunch.
The food is delicious and we tuck into a selection of the Japanese- inspired creations: Crispy Rice Spicy Tuna, King Prawns with yuzu kosho, Pork Ramen and some Maki Rolls.
Later, we head across the road to SugarSand’s beachfront tables, taking front row seats for the famous Seminyak Sunset, while sipping on a Gin & Tonic. The perfect end to a Seminyak day.
When it’s time for a nightcap, we make our way to the Tree Bar, a casual setting for evening cocktails.
Taking centre stage is a pule tree, one of the island’s most sacred trees, used by carvers to make Balinese traditional spiritual masks.
We pull up a seat at the bar and let our ‘Balixologist’ recommend a cocktail from the menu that uses locally-sourced herbs, spices, fruits and vegetables.
I’m presented with an ‘Island Mai Time’, an eclectic mix of spiced rum, coconut liqueur, vanilla, mango, orange and lemon served with a coconut and cheese foam. It’s a little sweet for my liking, but I’m too busy enjoying the local jazz trio and the balmy air to mind.
