Heading to Hong Kong with the family? Here we share our pick of the best family-friendly hotels in Hong Kong, taking into consideration location and facilities.

Hong Kong is a fun city to visit as a family. It is busy and bustling and there is a surprising amount of fun things to do in Hong Kong with kids.
But, first things first, you’ll need to book into a family-friendly hotel. Hong Kong has all the big chain brands of hotels to choose from, in addition to several lesser-known boutique hotels.
Although we lived in Hong Kong for 4 years, we have also visited many times as tourists and so have had plenty of opportunity over the years to check out all these fantastic hotels.
Table of Contents
Best Hotel Location in Hong Kong

There are several good areas to stay in Hong Kong, and thanks to a fantastic public transport system it is easy to get around too. When choosing family accommodation in Hong Kong, do try to be close to an MTR station as this will make sightseeing easier.
Ideally, you will want to be centrally located – either on Hong Kong Island or in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon.
The exception to this is if you are planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland, and want to make more of your experience by staying overnight in one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels, which of course were designed to be some of the best hotels in Hong Kong for families.
- Admiralty: Admiralty is a great place to stay with a family, particularly around the Pacific Place shopping mall, which has some of the best family accommodation in Hong Kong. Here you have easy access to public transport, a good choice of restaurants and shops and easy access to Hong Kong park.
- Central: Central Hong Kong is where all the action is. Staying in a Central Hong Kong hotel with kids gives you plenty of dining options, plus easy access to public transport and shopping. It is busy though, and not really suitable for strollers.
- Wan Chai/Causeway Bay: Another popular area for hotels for visitors to Hong Kong due to its good public transport links. Wan Chai has a wide choice of restaurants and Causeway Bay is a shopper’s paradise.
- Tsim Sha Tsui: Over on Kowloon, Tsim Sha Tsui is where to stay for the best harbour views of Hong Kong Island. Tsim Sha Tsui is busy and bustling, with a huge range of shops and restaurants, and Central is just a star ferry ride away.
- Mongkok: Mongkok is not for the faint-hearted. When you think of busy Hong Kong with a million people jostling for space amongst street stall markets and noodle shops, this is Mongkok. A great area for the quintessential Hong Kong experience, but probably best suited for families with older children.
- Hong Kong Disneyland: If you are planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland, make more of your experience by staying overnight in one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels. However, the location is not really ideal for a longer stay.
Best Hong Kong Family Hotels
Let’s take a closer look at some of Hong Kong’s best family friendly hotel options.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
Located on the waterfront on Hong Kong Island, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers some of the best centrally located Hong Kong accommodation for families.
This luxury Hong Kong family hotel has a huge range of family friendly facilities, including a 50m outdoor heated pool, kids’ pool and two tennis courts, and is perfect for a family trip to Hong Kong.

There are beautiful landscaped gardens to explore, with waterfalls and fountains – but what we really love about this family hotel in Hong Kong is its sizeable kids playground. Handily located close to the kids’ pool, this definitely makes your life easier if you are staying in Hong Kong with kids.
There’s also tennis courts, squarsh courts and even a driving range.
There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from, including a steakhouse, Chinese, Italian and Japanese.
Whatever you need at the hotel is no trouble – high chairs, baby baths, wet wipes, diapers. You ask for it, they’ve got it!
It’s a bit of a walk with small kids to the closest MTR in Wan Chai, but there are plenty of taxis lining up outside the hotel and most sightseeing is just a short ride away.

Island Shangri-La Hong Kong
The Island Shangri-La is another great choice for a luxury family hotel in Hong Kong. We’ve stayed here several times and love it.
All 531 rooms and suites are beautifully decorated, with city/harbour or Peak views, and interconnecting rooms are available.
The hotel has eight restaurants to choose from, including Café TOO, where you will find one of the most impressive breakfast spreads in the city.
If you are visiting Hong Kong during the warmer months, you will appreciate the outdoor swimming pool, ideal for cooling off under the watchful eye of Hong Kong’s famous skyscrapers.

The hotel is ideally located above the Pacific Place shopping mall, easily accessible via an elevator.
We think Pacific Place is one of the best areas to stay in Hong Kong with kids as here you have access to not only shops, but also a wide selection of mid-range restaurants, coffee shops and a supermarket.
There is also an MTR station in the basement and trams stop directly outside the mall to take you quickly into Central or to Causeway Bay. Hong Kong Park is just across the road.
What we particularly love about staying at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, is the warm hospitality that Shangri-La is so famous for. The warm welcome you receive every time you step through the door makes this one of the best hotels in Hong Kong for a family vacation.

Dining with the Disney characters is also available at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel in Mickey’s restaurant during breakfast and dinner, although I have heard that the character experience is better at the Enchanted Garden in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

There is a fun grand piano-shaped outdoor swimming pool with a waterslide, and also Malibu Games, filled with arcade games for the kids.
You do need to buy tokens for the arcade games, but keep a look out for the Free Fun Play for hotel guests at selected times. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel can also use the Storybook Playroom at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
Both the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel provide a free shuttle bus to Hong Kong Disneyland every 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.
