Hong Kong is a fun city to visit as a family. It is busy and bustling and there is a surprising amount of fun things to do in Hong Kong with kids.
But of course if you are planning a Hong Kong family vacation, you will want to know what are the best family hotels in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has all the big chain brands of hotels to choose from, in addition to several lesser-known boutique hotels.
Although we lived in Hong Kong for 4 years, we have also visited many times as tourists and so have had plenty of opportunity over the years to check out all these fantastic hotels.

Best Hotel Location in Hong Kong
Ideally when choosing where to stay in Hong Kong with family you will want to be centrally located – either on Hong Kong island or in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, and close to public transport to make sightseeing easy.
The exception to this is if you are planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland, and want to make more of your experience by staying overnight in one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels, which of course were designed to be some of the best hotels in Hong Kong for families.
So if you are deciding what is the best place to stay in Hong Kong with family, here we give you our pick of the best family hotels in Hong Kong.
Grand Hyatt Hong Kong
Located on the waterfront on Hong Kong Island, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers some of the best centrally located Hong Kong accommodation for families.
This luxury Hong Kong family hotel has a huge range of family friendly facilities, including a 50m outdoor heated pool, kids’ pool and two tennis courts, and is perfect for a family trip to Hong Kong.
There are beautiful landscaped gardens to explore, with waterfalls and fountains – but what we really love about this family hotel in Hong Kong is its sizeable kids playground. Handily located close to the kids’ pool, this definitely makes your life easier if you are staying in Hong Kong with kids.
There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from, including a steakhouse, Chinese, Italian and Japanese.
We also love that all guests are provided with a complimentary smartphone throughout their stay, pre-loaded with city guides and maps to make exploring Hong Kong easy. It even includes all local calls and international calls to select countries (including UK, USA and Australia).
It’s a bit of a walk with small kids to the closest MTR in Wan Chai, but there are plenty of taxis lining up outside the hotel and most sightseeing is just a short ride away.
Island Shangri-La Hong Kong
The Island Shangri-La is another great choice for a luxury family hotel in Hong Kong. All 531 rooms and suites are beautifully decorated, with city/harbour or Peak views, and interconnecting rooms are available.
The hotel has eight restaurants to choose from, including Café TOO, where you will find one of the most impressive breakfast spreads in the city.
If you are visiting Hong Kong with kids during the warmer months, you will appreciate the outdoor swimming pool, ideal for cooling off under the watchful eye of Hong Kong’s famous skyscrapers.
The Island Shangri-La Hong Kong is ideally located above the Pacific Place shopping mall, easily accessible via an elevator.
We think Pacific Place is one of the best areas to stay in Hong Kong with kids as here you have access to not only shops, but also a wide selection of mid-range restaurants, coffee shops and a supermarket.
There is also an MTR station in the basement and trams stop directly outside the mall to take you quickly into Central or to Causeway Bay. Hong Kong Park is just across the road.
What we particularly love about staying at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, is the warm hospitality that Shangri-La is so famous for. The warm welcome you receive every time you step through the door makes this one of the best hotels in Hong Kong for a family vacation.
Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel
Chances are if you are planning a Hong Kong family vacation, you will be planning a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland with kids. Why not complete the experience with a night at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel?
Rooms in this faux Victorian palace are contemporary with Victorian touches, and you can pre-book room decoration packages to make it more fun for the kids.
These packages include themed door and mirror stickers, bed runners, bathrobes and slippers. There is the option of having two double beds in all rooms, to make it easier to house the whole family.
As you would expect, there are plenty of family friendly facilities and activities at this top family hotel in Hong Kong. There are two swimming pools – both indoor and outdoor, including a 40m waterslide in the outdoor pool. There is also an outdoor playground.
The Storybook Playroom provides plenty of family fun in the shape of games, crafts, toys and puzzles, in addition to a mini theater screening classic Disney movies, and story time with a cast member every evening.
Note that children need to be accompanied, although for ages 6-12 you can pay extra for a ‘playroom buddy’ to watch over them.
Little girls should check out the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where they can indulge in a makeover to be transformed into a Disney Princess.
Even dining is fun at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, with the option to dine with the characters at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Enchanted Garden restaurant, or enjoy Disney-themed dim sum in the Crystal Lotus restaurant.
Disney’s Hollywood Hotel
Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is the more cost effective option of the two hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland.
As at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, all rooms can be configured with two double beds to be more accommodating for a family stay, and themed room decorations are available if pre-booked ahead of your stay.
Dining with the Disney characters is also available at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel in Mickey’s restaurant during breakfast and dinner, although I have heard that the character experience is better at the Enchanted Garden in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
There is a fun grand piano-shaped outdoor swimming pool with a waterslide, and also Malibu Games, filled with arcade games for the kids.
You do need to buy tokens for the arcade games, but keep a look out for the Free Fun Play for hotel guests at selected times. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel can also use the Storybook Playroom at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
Both the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel provide a free shuttle bus to Hong Kong Disneyland every 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.
Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong
Like all Four Seasons hotels across the world, the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is a fabulous choice for a luxury family hotel.
We love how the Four Seasons hotels go that extra mile to make their little guests feel welcome – with child-sized bathrobes and slippers, and children’s toiletries, kids menus and even disposable diapers available if you run out.
The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong also boasts a beautiful freeform infinity pool with fabulous harbor views, in addition to a lap pool, so you don’t need to worry about your kids getting in the way of serious swimmers.
Both pools are heated year-round. The pool terrace is the ideal place for a lazy lunch while the kids play, and to get away form the bustle of the city.
The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is ideally located for a family vacation, being linked to the IFC mall, where there are plenty of shops and restaurants, and a supermarket.
It is also linked via the mall to the Airport Express station and the Star Ferry pier, and is just a short walk underground to the Central MTR station.
If you are planning to stay at the Four Seasons during your Hong Kong family vacation, be sure to make use of the babysitting service and book a table at one of the hotels Michelin-starred restaurants – French fine dining Caprice, or 3-Michelin starred Chinese restaurant Lung King Heen.
The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong
Situated on the 102nd-118th floors of the ICC (International Commerce Centre), Hong Kong’s tallest skyscraper, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong boasts some of the best views of any hotel in the city from all of its 312 guest rooms.
The Ritz-Carlton is another chain of luxury hotels that put in that extra effort to make their small guests feel welcome, through their Ritz Kids programme.
At the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong you can book a Ritz Kids Night Safari, where your kids are provided with a tent and bedding to sleep in your bedroom. This package includes mini bathrobes, slippers and toiletries, as well as Pokemon bathtub drawing, movies and Wii games.
The top floor of this fabulous family-friendly hotel in Hong Kong is devoted to its spa and infinity swimming pool (indoors but has floor-to-ceiling windows from which you can admire the view).
This is also where you will find OZONE – the highest bar in the world at 490m above sea level, so be sure to book a babysitter for one evening during your stay and head here for a cocktail.
The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong is handily located for a family vacation in Hong Kong, linked to Elements shopping mall, with its huge range of shops and dining options and a supermarket.
The hotel is also linked to the Kowloon MTR Station and to the Airport Express Kowloon Station.
If you don’t mind staying slightly away from central Hong Kong then Ovolo Southside is a great option for a mid-range family hotel in Hong Kong.
Ovolo Southside is located close to Ocean Park and features a selection of industrial chic rooms, in what is Hong Kong’s first warehouse-conversion hotel.
The Family & Friends room is particularly suitable for families, featuring two queen beds in a loft setting, separated by a room divider.
The Corner Deluxe rooms house a sofa bed that comfortably sleeps two children, making these another good option for a family room in Hong Kong. Connecting rooms are also available.
Trendy mod-cons in this design hotel include Apple TVs in all rooms, X-Boxes on request and electric black-out blinds. This Hong Kong family friendly hotel also boasts a cool roof bar, and the trendy Cirqle bistro for meals in the hotel.
We especially love all the ‘Freebies’ on offer when you book directly through the Ovolo website. These include breakfast, Wi-Fi, in-room mini bar and snacks, self-laundry and best of all – a happy hour between 5-7 with complimentary wine, beer and spirits with canapés!
The Ovolo Southside is on the other side of Hong Kong island, near Aberdeen.
Although it may not seem like the best area to stay in Hong Kong with family, it is just a couple of minutes walk to Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, which is just three stops from Central, making it still very convenient Hong Kong family accommodation for sightseeing.
Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel
The Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel is located right on the doorstep of popular theme park Ocean Park. The 50-foot aquarium in the lobby sets the theme for your stay from the moment you arrive.
The hotel’s 471 guest rooms and suites are arranged around a large freeform swimming pool, perfect for cooling off after a day of exploring Ocean Park.
Kids will love the themed family rooms, which include underwater, rainforest and bamboo forest themes. All themed rooms have two double beds to accommodate the family, as do most other room categories.
It has a range of restaurants, including Chinese and international cuisine.
The Salisbury – YMCA of Hong Kong
The Salisbury is often overlooked as an option for family accommodation in Hong Kong. This mid-range family friendly Hong Kong hotel is run by the YMCA of Hong Kong and has just undergone a major room renovation, seeing all 372 rooms and suites newly renovated to a modern and functional design.
At The Salisbury, you can check-into a harbour view room at the fraction of the price of the neighbouring luxury international hotel chains. Both the Family Suites (no harbour view) and the Harbour View Suites offer perfect Hong Kong accommodation for a family of 4 or more.
This Hong Kong hotel family room features a separate living room with double sofa bed, and a bedroom with a King bed, giving you plenty of space. There’s also a fridge, free Wi-Fi and tea/coffee making facilities, as well as cable TV.
Onsite facilities include an indoor swimming pool, basketball court, fully equipped gym, squash courts, climbing wall, as well as two onsite restaurants.
The Salisbury also boasts an enviable location in Hong Kong, right across the road from The Peninsula Hotel and next to the MTR station, a two-minute walk to the Star Ferry and a short walk from Kowloon Park.
Butterfly on Prat
Butterfly on Prat offers some of the best budget family accommodation in Hong Kong. This no-frills Hong Kong hotel in Kowloon is perfect if you want to spend your days out exploring and don’t want to spend money on all the facilities of a five star hotel.
The Family Rooms are perfect for a Hong Kong family trip, with all rooms featuring LED TVs with satellite and cable channels, free Wi-Fi, tea/coffee making facilities and smart-device docking stations.
Family Rooms have either two double beds, or one queen and two single beds, making this a great Hong Kong family hotel for a family of 4 or more.
What is really impressive for a hotel of this price is that all guests are provided with a complimentary smartphone with free local calls and unlimited 3G data, in addition to a 4G pocket WIFI device to enable you to take WIFI with you around town – essential for navigating with Google maps and other Hong Kong apps that will make your life easier when visiting Hong Kong with kids.

Butterfly on Prat is located just a 5-minute walk to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station and in walking distance of the star ferry.
