One of our favourite destinations for a family holiday in Australia, Hamilton Island has just announced the coming launch of its newest boutique hotel – The Sundays.

Located in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef in the Whitsunday Islands, this boutique hotel promises a serene retreat where relaxation meets natural beauty. With ocean views, family-friendly facilities and al fresco dining, we are excited to learn more about this new hotel offering.

What’s in store?

Set to open in Autumn 2025, The Sundays is designed to capture the essence of a perfect Sunday – a day for unwinding, cherishing time with loved ones, and embracing the beauty of nature.

The Sundays was created with families in mind, responding to guest requests for more family-friendly boutique accommodations.

With 59 thoughtfully designed rooms, guests can choose from a balcony or terrace, each providing stunning views of the Coral Sea and lush hotel gardens.

Families are well-catered for, with interconnecting rooms ensuring everyone has their own space.

The Sundays features exclusive amenities for its guests, including private cabanas around a guest-only pool and a waterside restaurant and bar. Al fresco dining with panoramic views of Catseye Bay will be the name of the dining game for guests here.

What they’re saying

Pete Brulisauer, CEO of Hamilton Island, says, “In developing its ethos, we were inspired by the essence of what makes a Sunday so special – relaxing, treasuring time and fostering connections with loved ones, and embracing nature.

It will be a place where you can expect an extraordinary experience for all ages amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of The Whitsundays in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.”

What’s the buzz?

The project, costing over $30 million, is the latest in a series of significant investments by the Oatley family, who have poured over $400 million into Hamilton Island since 2003.

The opening of The Sundays is expected to significantly contribute to the Whitsundays’ visitor economy, creating over 100 full-time hospitality jobs.

The Sundays is the latest addition to Hamilton Island’s accommodation, which includes the luxurious qualia and Beach Club and the family-friendly Reef View Hotel and Palm Bungalows.

Bookings for the Sundays will open in August 2024.
