Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji reopens in April 2026 after a major renovation, including spacious new two-bedroom bures designed for families.

Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji

One of Fiji’s best-known family resorts is about to reopen just in time for the Easter holidays, after a major makeover.

The Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort in Savusavu will reopen on 1 April 2026 following a multi-million-dollar renovation – the biggest upgrade in the resort’s history. The refresh includes redesigned accommodation for families, updated resort facilities and improvements across the property.

For families planning a Fiji holiday, the biggest news is the addition of new two-bedroom oceanfront bures designed specifically for extended families.

New two-bedroom bures designed for families

Five of the resort’s existing one-bedroom oceanfront bures have been transformed into spacious two-bedroom, two-bathroom residences, giving families more room to spread out.

The new bures feature:

  • Two bedrooms and two bathrooms
  • Large indoor-outdoor living areas
  • Extended decks with daybeds
  • Outdoor dining areas for up to six people

These larger bures are designed to make travelling with grandparents or older children easier, with space to relax together while still giving everyone a bit of privacy.

Refreshed rooms and resort spaces

Along with the new family accommodation, the resort has updated rooms and shared spaces throughout the property.

Upgrades include:

  • Newly rethatched bures
  • Refreshed interiors with new furnishings, lighting and linens
  • Updated reception, dining and main pool areas
  • Restored tropical landscaping around the resort

Traditional Fijian design elements, including magimagi (woven coconut fibre), have also been incorporated throughout the property.

New fitness centre and upgraded sports courts

Active families will also find a few new facilities when the resort reopens.

A new ocean-facing fitness centre overlooking Savusavu Bay has been added, alongside the resort’s existing spa and outdoor yoga platform.

Sports facilities have also been refreshed, with resurfaced:

  • Tennis courts
  • Pickleball courts
  • Basketball courts

A popular Fiji resort for families

Located on the island of Vanua Levu, the Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort sits on 17 acres overlooking Savusavu Bay. The resort is known for its family-friendly approach, including kids’ activities, cultural experiences and easy access to Fiji’s famous coral reefs and marine life.
