Where to Stay in Langkawi

Here we help you choose where to stay in Langkawi, reviewing the best family hotels and resorts on Langkawi Island to help you make the most out of your vacation.

Where to stay in Langkawi with kids

Langkawi in Malaysia is one of our favourite family destinations in Southeast Asia.

We love the natural beauty of the island, the amazing beaches and all the wildlife viewing opportunities that come as part of Langkawi holidays.

There are a few choices of where to stay in Langkawi. If you like to be close to a choice of restaurants, look at Langkawi hotels in Pantai Cenang beach or Telega Harbour Park.

If seclusion is more your thing, then one of the Langkawi resorts at Datai Bay or Tanjung Rhu beach may suit you more.

The island is surprisingly large, so don’t expect to stay in Datai Bay and pop to Pantai Cenang for a quick bite to eat.

If you are looking for a special Langkawi hotel, here we bring you our pick of all the best Langkawi Island resorts.

The Andaman Hotel Langkawi

The best hotel in Langkawi for nature-loving families.

2022 update: Following a fire in the Andaman in January 2021, the resort is temporarily closed and not taking bookings at this time. I look forward to letting you know when they are back in business!

This Langkawi beach resort is set on the gorgeous Datai Bay, a beautiful Langkawi beach that was named by National Geographic as one of the top 10 beaches in the world.

The Andaman has the reputation as one of the top hotels in Langkawi for families, thanks to its fabulous pool with slide and shallow areas, and fun kids club with a comprehensive schedule of activities.

Make use of the kids club and head to the beautiful spa or the Ernie Els designed golf course next door.

There is a good choice of restaurants dishing up a range of cuisines, including the beach bar, where parents can enjoy sunset cocktails while the kids play in the sand.

One of the most unique features of this beautiful Langkawi resort hotel is the abundance of wildlife found around the grounds. This includes monkeys, hornbills and monitor lizards, while the Andaman is also known as the best place in the whole world to spot the elusive colugo (flying lemur).

We also love that the smallest rooms in this Langkawi seaview hotel come with 2 x queen beds as an option, which is great for families. The stylish rooms go all the way up to 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom villas if you are looking for more space.

There are three restaurants at this Langkawi accommodation on the beach, offering a range of Malaysian, Chinese, Indian and International cuisine.

Be sure to book a babysitter one evening and head to the gorgeous adults-only bar for sunset cocktails. Or head here during the day when the kids are in the kids club and take a dip in the pool.

The Datai Langkawi

The Langkawi best place to stay for a luxury rainforest experience.

Recently re-opened following a major refurbishment, this boutique hotel in Langkawi offers the ultimate silver spoon jungle experience.

Embedded in the jungle where the rainforest meets the ocean, The Datai is paradise for nature lovers, with plenty of monkeys and hornbills to keep you company at all times.

But make no mistake; this is no rustic jungle lodge. The 125 luxurious rooms, suites and villas feature all mod-cons. Choose from the Canopy rooms, Rainforest Suites or the gorgeous one and two-bedroom beach villas, which feature private swimming pools.

Datai Langkawi luxury hotel

This is not the best hotel in Langkawi for family specific activities. There is no kids club, or kids entertainment and the main swimming pool is adults only (don’t worry the family pool at the beach is gorgeous – see photo above).

But if none of this matters to you, then the Datai really is one of the most special places to stay in Langkawi.

One of the real selling points here is the beach. Datai Bay is gorgeous – and the beach is private and therefore only accessible to guests of the Datai and the Andaman hotel next door. The rainforest experience you get here is also totally unique.

Other highlights of this Langkawi boutique resort include four fabulous restaurants set in the rainforest and an amazing back-to-nature spa.
