Are you planning a trip to Yangon with kids and looking for a family friendly Yangon hotel to stay in? First things first, you are not going to find a hotel in Yangon that has a kids club or overtly family-focused facilities. However, if you are planning an adventure in Myanmar with kids, I’m assuming that’s not really the kind of hotel you are looking for anyway.
What you will find is hotels that are welcoming to children, have swimming pools, kids menus in the restaurant, will provide rollaway beds and cribs, and your kids may even find fun little surprises such as ducks and peacocks roaming the grounds.
One thing to be aware of if you are traveling to Myanmar with kids: we noticed that most hotels tend to charge extra for a rollaway bed – as much as $70 USD a night in some cases, which can make a big difference to your hotel bill! I would definitely check this ahead of booking so you have this information when comparing hotel room prices.
Another thing we were surprised about when planning our trip to Myanmar with kids was how expensive the hotels actually are. We had assumed that because Myanmar is still relatively off the beaten track in Asia that everything would be a lot cheaper than it actually was. We also found that prices varied across hotel booking sites.
For this reason, if you are looking for family friendly hotels in Yangon, I would recommend checking with a hotel booking site such as Hotels Combined that compares the hotel prices from all the different hotel booking sites across the web. You can use the search function below:
We came across several good options when we were planning our stay in Yangon. So if you are deciding where to stay in Yangon with kids, here is our round-up of the best family hotels in Yangon:
Belmond Governor’s Residence
Located on a quiet backstreet in the leafy embassy district, this luxury family friendly hotel in Yangon is housed in a 1920s colonial style mansion, where fan-cooled verandahs and hand-carved teak furniture take you back to the bygone era of colonial Burma.
This luxury Yangon family hotel boasts 49 spacious bedrooms, two restaurants and a bar set amongst lush tropical gardens. A kids menu features all the usual suspects such as fish and chips, pasta and chicken nuggets, while the buffet of Burmese favourite dishes will keep the adults happy.
We particularly love the gorgeous swimming pool with large shallow area, which is perfect for kids to play in while mum and dad laze around on a sunlounger beneath the shade of a traditional Burmese parasol.
There is a large grassy lawn for the kids to run around on, complete with resident geese and ducks, and fish in the many lotus ponds surrounding the property. The resident peacocks wandering around also caused much excitement for our kids.
