The Best Restaurants in Tignes, France

Planning a trip to the French Alps? Find the best restaurants in Tignes, France, including local favourites, après-ski dining and family-friendly options.

La Ferme des 3 Capucines in Tignes, France.

There is a huge choice of restaurants in Tignes, both on the mountain and in the villages. We enjoyed so many fantastic meals and I’m happy to share my recommendations here.

As you would expect, the majority of Tignes restaurants specialise in Savoyarde cuisine – we’re talking hearty mountain fare such as fondue, raclette, tartiflette etc. Pizza and steaks are other favourites to be featured on menus here.

There is the odd restaurant that features Asian food and even a Colombian restaurant to check out, but don’t expect a huge amount of variety in cuisine here.

Top Tips for Eating Out in Tignes

Here are a few top tips we have learned along the way:

  • Avoid paying high prices for bottled water. Ask for a ‘carafe d’eau’ for tap water.
  • Portions are often large, so consider sharing dishes to cut costs.
  • Book ahead for popular restuarants, particularly during peak periods.

The Layout of Tignes

One of the first things to know about Tignes is that it isn’t just one village but a collection of five different areas.

  • Tignes Le Lac
  • Le Lavachet (a smaller quieter area, linked to Le Lac)
  • Val Claret
  • Les Boisses
  • Les Brevieres

The majority of accommodation and restaurants can be found in Tignes Le Lac/Le Lavachet and Val Claret.

A free shuttle bus connects the villages, meaning you can take a bus between villages to go out for dinner at night. It is particularly easy to get between Le Lac, Le Lavachet and Val Claret.

We stayed in Tignes Le Lac,  but often chose to eat in Val Claret, and getting between the two was pretty easy with the shuttle bus.

As we were staying in Tignes Le Lac, we only tried restaurants in the evening in Tignes Le Lac, Val Claret and Le Lavachet. However, we did try out some other options for lunch during the day and these are included below in the ‘on the mountain’ section.

Tignes Le Lac Restaurants

Julietta

Bowl of pasta at Julietta restaurant in Tignes, France.

Italian restaurant Julietta, sister to L’escale Blanche, has views of the slopes, making it a great choice for lunch or dinner (we ate here for both).

We loved the buzzy atmosphere and the good value pizzas, that are large enough to share. The pasta dishes are also excellent and there is a small Savoyarde section to the menu, if you can’t see past a fondue.

La Ferme de 3 Capucines

Interior of La Ferme des 3 Capucines in Tignes, France.

This was one of our favourite restaurants in Tignes. With a traditional rustic cosy wooden interior and welcoming staff, this restaurant is located in an old farmhouse on the outskirts of Tignes Le Lac.

The menu is traditional Savoyarde, and they make all their own cheese for the dishes such as raclette and fondue. In fact, this rated as our best fondue in Tignes. The raclette was very generous too.

This is a very popular restaurant, so book ahead (by phone only).

L’escale Blanche

A bowl of French Onion Soup at L'escale Blanche restaurant in Tignes, France.

Handily located right near the lift station in the heart of Tignes Le Lac, this casual restaurant has a fun and friendly atmosphere.

The menu features a good choice of Savoyard cuisine, but the burgers and pizzas are also good. It’s a popular spot for apres-ski with outdoor seating around fires.

Can’t get a table? They also offer takeaway.

Il Savoia

Savoia restaurant in Tignes, France.

We ate at this restaurant a couple of times, mainly because we were staying at the Hotel Voulez Vous, where the restaurant is located. However, the restaurant is open to non-hotel guests, so I am including it here.

This fine-dining restaurant features dishes inspired by the French and Italian Alps and includes excellent freshly made pasta dishes, risottos and grilled meats.

The kids particularly loved the dessert buffet!

Other restaurants in Tignes Le Lac

These other restaurants come recommended, although we didn’t have time to try them:

  • Niurou Steakhouse – known for its cosy atmosphere, great steaks and wine list.
  • Tignes 2100 Alpine Kitchen at Langley 2100 – very popular and buzzing restaurant offering a good selection of pizza, pasta and grilled meats. Also provides takeaway pizza.

Le Lavachet Restaurants

La Queue de Cochon

Woman pouring wine at La Queue de Cochon restaurant in Tignes, France.

The interior of this restaurant reminds me of a pub in England’s Lake District, but don’t let that put you off.

The food is excellent and great value for Tignes. The evening kicks off with the menu being presented on a chalkboard by the friendly owner.

We rated this the best steak in Tignes, and the veal chop was also excellent. Don’t miss the dessert cocktails!

The bar at La Queue de Cochon is also a fun and relaxed place for apres-ski, so arrive early to enjoy the atmosphere.

Other Le Lavachet Restaurants to try:

  • L’arti – modern Savoyarde favourites in a cozy setting
  • Mendikoa – serving up a mix of Basque and Savoyarde cuisine, known for its good-value food and friendly atmosphere.
  • Kodo – if you’ve had your fill of cheese, Kodo dishes up Asian dishes and cocktails in an informal setting.

Val Claret Restaurants

Table de Jeanne

La Table de Jeanne restaurant in Tignes, France.

Another of our favourite restaurants in the area, Table de Jeanne is a farmhouse restaurant with a beautiful setting and excellent food.

Sister restaurant to the famous Le Panoramic, Table de Jeanne boasts the same attention to detail and beautiful mountain lodge setting.

We loved the atmosphere and also rated this the best raclette in Tignes.

La Pignatta

Boy eating pizza at La Pignatta restaurant in Tignes, France.

This popular Val Claret Italian restaurant has a homely atmosphere and friendly service. The menu features both Italian and French cuisine, mainly featuring pizza, pasta and steak.

We enjoyed our meal here, but preferred Julietta in Le Lac for both the food and value-for-money.

Bazurto

Bazurto restaurant in Tignes, France.

When you can’t face another fondue or raclette, give Bazurto a try. This restaurant dishes up Colombian cuisine in a modern Latin American atmosphere.

Many of the dishes are designed to be shared tapas-style, such as croquettas, ceviche and tuna tartare. Don’t miss the Trout Fillet Flambeed in Mezcal.

Other Val Claret Restaurants to Try

  • La Plante de Baton – this restaurant dishes up all Savoyarde favourites but is particularly known for its crepes and galettes.

On the Mountain Restaurants in Tignes

There are so many restaurants to choose from on the mountain in both the Tignes and Val d’Isere areas.

We tried a couple of the self-service style restaurants and particularly liked the ones at Le Panoramic, Les Marmottes and La Toviere. For sit-down restaurants, here are the ones we liked the best:

Le Panoramic

Waiter at Panoramic restaurant in Tignes, France.

Our favourite dining experience in Tignes! I highly recommend you book a table.

Swap your ski boots for slippers on arrival and sink into a fur-covered sofa for an aperitif in the bar, before making your way to your table.

The fine-dining menu specialises in wood-fired meats and classic mountain dishes and there’s a 750-bottle wine list. Non-skiers can also access the restaurant via the Perce-Neige funicular.

Maison Louly (Bellevarde)

Sun terrace at Maison Louly restaurant in Tignes, France.

Maison Louly dishes up traditional mountain cuisine with an Asian twist in a sophisticated setting. On a bluebird day, lunch on the terrace here is hard to beat.

This restaurant is located on the Val d’Isere side, close to where the Marmottes chairlift comes in from Tignes.

La Rosee Blanche (La Daille)

La Rosee Blanch restaurant in Tignes, France.

This bar/restaurant is handily located close to the base of the La Daille gondola and the Funival.

The outdoor terrace is a great casual spot to sit and enjoy coffee, lunch or a cold beer and watch the skiers coming down the slopes. The hotdogs and burgers are excellent and good value.

L’Etoile des Neiges (Les Brevieres)

Sun terrace at L'etoile des neiges restaurant in Tignes, France.

Located right at the bottom of the slopes in Les Brevieres, this is a lovely sunny spot to enjoy lunch or a drink with a great view of the slopes.

There are plenty of Savoyard dishes on offer, but it also does good burgers and pizzas.

Other on-the-mountain restaurants in Tignes to try

We’ve only scratched the surface here! Here are afew more that come recommended:

  • La Folie Douce – this world-famous apres-ski haven on the Val d’Isere side offers 5 restaurants in one location, from fine dining to fast food burgers and waffles.
  • L’alpage de Chaudannes – located at the top of the Chaudannes chairlift, this on-the-mountain restaurant has a Savoyarde menu and a cosy setting.
