The Margaret River region in Western Australia is a hugely popular Australia family holiday destination. We have visited many times over the past eight years and every year it gets more and more busy with holidaymakers.

Best Accommodation in Margaret River for Families

With all these tourists, there is obviously a large choice of places to stay in Margaret River. Whether you are looking for a Margaret River hotel or prefer to look at a choice of houses for rent in Margaret River, here we help narrow down your choices.

We have stayed at several different accommodation types over the years, including a Margaret River beach resort, Margaret River apartments and several Margaret River holiday homes. Here we share what we think to be the best accommodation in Margaret River.

One thing to note: if you are visiting during a popular holiday period (Christmas & New Year, Chinese New Year, Australia Day, Easter) then you will need to plan ahead and book your Margaret River accommodation well in advance as it gets busy.

Pullman Bunker Bay Resort

The Pullman Bunker Bay Resort is the most renowned Margaret River resort, and is a great choice for families. The one and two bungalow-style villas at this Bunker Bay accommodation include kitchens and laundry facilities, and accommodation is free for 2 children under 12 years sharing their parents’ room.

This luxury accommodation in Margaret River is just a few steps from the fabulous Bunker Bay beach and also features a stunning outdoor heated infinity pool. A Kids Club is also available for children aged 5-11, and they offer a babysitting service. Perfect!

Bunker Bay Beach Margaret River

Smiths Beach Resort

Do you dream of waking up to stunning ocean views every morning? Smiths Beach Resort is another of the best places to stay in Margaret River next to the beach. And what a beach! Smiths beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the area.

The self-catering accommodation at this stylish resort ranges from 1-bedroom Margaret River beach apartments to 4-bedroom Margaret River beach houses, with all rooms featuring private living areas with full kitchen, outdoor barbecues and private parking spaces.

There is also an excellent onsite restaurant, Lamont’s, as well as a gourmet deli and bottleshop, plus swimming pool and tennis court make this an excellent option for a relaxing Margaret River retreat.

Sunflowers Animal Farm

If you’re raising city kids like me, then you could cause some major excitement by staying on a Margaret River farmstay for your holiday. Sunflower Animals Farm provides farmstay accommodation in four separate Margaret River holiday cottages.

These Margaret River cottages are distinctly no-frills in design, but guests staying here get unlimited access to the farm, including free buckets of animal food, as well as the opportunity to get involved in the farm activities, such as pony rides, tractor rides and collecting eggs.

Find out more information about Sunflowers Animal Farm here.

Regency Beach Club Dunsborough

Regency Beach Club

This luxury accommodation in Dunsborough is handily located just a short walk from the town centre, where you will find a supermarket, shops and several restaurants.

Regency Beach Club offers a range of 1- to 5-bedroom Margaret River house accommodation, all facing out to sea. All houses are individually designed and priced, but all come with gardens and balconies or patios with barbecues. There’s also an outdoor swimming pool, gym and tennis court on site.

If you don’t have any luck with Regency Beach Club, check out Halcyon Bay next door – it offers more of the same.

Private house hire margaret River

Margaret River Rentals

Hiring a private holiday house in Margaret River is a great option for families – and especially if you are more than one family vacationing together. There are loads of large holiday rentals in Margaret River, which give you all the space you need for the kids to run around and entertain themselves, and come with laundry, barbecue and kitchen facilities to help make life easier.

Choosing to book a private hire Margaret River property also gives you the flexibility to choose whether you want to stay in Yallingup close to the wineries, or whether you prefer to opt for Margaret River beach accommodation in somewhere like Eagle Bay or Prevelly.

We have used Private Properties several times when booking Margaret River family accommodation. They have a fabulous selection of high-end houses and accommodation near Margaret River – and they can work out to be fantastic value when split between families. You could also check out Exclusive Escapes for more options of where to stay in Margaret River.

This looks really beautiful, I so wish Australia wasn’t, literally, the other side of the world from here! I agree with the advice about private properties: I feel it’s easier with children and these look really spacious and elegant

Thanks for this list Marianne! Thank you for including private properties that can be rented. It will be great for the kids to run around and easier for us adults to look after them while we get to relax and have fun ourselves! Keep it up!
