The Best Family Resorts in Phuket (2024)

Phuket is perfect for a family vacation. Here we share our pick of the best family resorts in Phuket.

Phuket in Thailand has so much to offer for a family vacation – beautiful beaches, family-friendly attractions, fabulous food and some of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.

Angsana Laguna Phuket

It is no wonder than families arrive by the plane-load all year round every year, looking for the best Phuket family resorts to make their vacation perfect.

I have stayed in Phuket multiple times over the past few years, staying in different resorts and different parts of the island.

For this article, I have focused on four main areas for where to stay in Phuket with a family:

  • close to the airport for a quick family break
  • the Laguna Phuket complex on Bangtao Beach
  • the quiet and laid-back Kamala Beach
  • fun and activity-laden Karon Beach

So if you are deciding on the best place to stay in Phuket for families, here we give you our pick of the best family resorts in Phuket.

Family Resorts close to Phuket Airport

Some family resorts in Phuket can be as much as an hour’s drive away from the airport, which is no fun when you are travelling with kids – particularly if you are just in Phuket for a short break.

Luckily, some of the best family-friendly hotels in Phuket are close to the airport. So you don’t need to worry about additional travel time once you arrive. These are perfect for a flop-and-drop style holiday.

The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa

The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa is often regarded as the best family hotel in Phuket, thanks to its three swimming pools, 11 restaurants and bars, kids club and numerous other family-friendly facilities.

And it is just a 15-minute drive from Phuket airport.

Most rooms in this family hotel in Phuket are available with a choice of king bed or two double beds, which is perfect for a family stay when you want the kids in the room with you. The Oceanfront Family Pool Rooms offer separate living area and outdoor decking with a private pool.

The adjoining Marriott’s Phuket Beach Club, offers 2-bedroom apartments that offer some of the best family accommodation in Phuket.

Mai Khao Beach Phuket

There’s a whole host of watersports activities on offer, as well as table tennis, volleyball, kayaking and tennis. There’s a fun kids club offering a range of activities, including batik painting, Thai dancing, yoga and cooking classes.

The 11 restaurants and bars span the world’s cuisines – don’t miss sunset cocktails looking out to sea at beachfront M Beach Club, while the kids play in the sand.

This family friendly resort in Phuket is located on Mai Khao Beach – Phuket’s longest beach at 11 kilometres long. This blissfully quiet beach is noticeably underdeveloped compared to other Phuket beaches as it forms part of the Sirinat National Park protected area.

So note that you won’t find any juice bars, beach shack restaurants or bars on the beach here – a blessing or a curse, depending on the type of vacation you are looking for!

The Slate

Set amongst lusciously landscaped gardens, this whimsical hotel of bright and bold colours and serious design statements is just a 5-minute drive from Phuket airport.

Brass treasure chests, charcoal black bathtubs and wrought-iron furnishings are liberally applied throughout the 220 suites, making this one of the most interesting boutique hotels in Thailand.

Rooms are well set up for families too – with plenty of choice between various family suites and 1- and 2-bedroom villas.

But don’t let all the uber-trendy design features put you off staying here if you are in Phuket with kids – there are plenty of family friendly facilities at this luxury resort in Phuket.

It’s true, only one of the three swimming pools is open to the kids, but the Tin Box kids club should keep them entertained, as will the abundance of outdoor activities on offer, such as kayaking, standup paddle boarding, Muay Thai and tennis lessons and bike adventures.

Nai Yang beach is just a minute’s walk away and is a nice quiet beach, although with enough beachfront bars and food shacks to allow you a change of scene from the resort restaurants.

If you don’t want to leave the resort, that’s ok too – there are several restaurants to choose from, each decked out in escalating levels of cool design features.

Iniala Beach House

Another exciting design hotel in Phuket is the Iniala Beach House.

Slightly further from the airport, at a 25-minute drive to Natai Beach, this family-friendly Phuket resort gives you the choice of three luxurious villas, a lavish penthouse and two one-bedroom pool suites.

Oh, and did I mention the Kids Hotel? These ‘adventure bedrooms’ with treehouses and caves within the Kids Club can be booked for the kids to have a fun sleepover experience.

There’s no holding back on luxury here – each villa comes with a dedicated team, including butler, driver, spa therapist (each villa has its own private spa room) chef and housekeeper.

Each villa also boasts its own swimming pool and there is an onsite gym and plenty of watersports equipment to keep everybody happy. Cuisine at the onsite restaurants is renowned throughout Phuket.

All kids receive their own backpack full of goodies on arrival, including storybook, t-shirt and games and there are plenty of fun activities on offer, including cookery lessons. There’s even an onsite kids club restaurant.

Family Resorts in Laguna Phuket on Bangtao Beach

Bangtao Beach is a stunning 8-kilometre stretch of white sand and home to the famous Laguna Phuket – one of the largest resort complexes in Asia and home to several Phuket family hotels.

Laguna Phuket boasts seven hotels and resorts and the 18-hole Laguna Phuket championship golf course, making it one of the best places to stay in Phuket with kids.

The great thing about staying in Laguna – apart from its location on such a beautiful beach, is that it opens up all the restaurants from the other resorts.

There are shuttle boats and buses that take you between resorts, and the resorts all allow cross billing. So if you are staying at the Angsana, you can dine at Outrigger and charge back to your room.

Boat Avenue with all its boutiques and restaurants is close and convenient too.

Angsana Laguna Phuket

The Angsana Laguna Phuket enjoys the reputation as one of the best resorts in Phuket for families. Its massive grounds are home to a beautiful freeform swimming pool with lazy river, artificial beach for sandcastle making and an activity zone with jet pools.

The fabulous Tree House Kids Club is one of the best kids clubs in Phuket, with its multi-level play area and jungle gym, outdoor playground and entertainment schedule.

You will have no problem convincing the kids to hang out here long enough for you to head to the Angsana spa (which also offers kids treatments), play a round of golf or head to Xana beach club.

Rooms at this family resort in Phuket are brightly decorated with modern furnishings and Royal purple accents, with 2-bedroom lofts, 2-bedroom suites and 3-bedroom residences catering for all family sizes.

Some rooms (seen in the photo above) open directly onto the swimming pool, with their own steps into the pool.

Dining options within the hotel include Thai, Steak, and international restaurants, but our favourite is Xana beach club, with its beachfront swimming pool, bar and restaurant. It’s the perfect spot for sunset!

SAii Laguna Phuket Beach Resort

Another of the best Phuket resorts for families is the SAii (Formerly Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort) in the Laguna complex.

All rooms allow two children under the age of 12, while the 2-bedroom villas are a great option for larger families, comprising a king-bed master suite and second bedroom with two queen beds.

There are three swimming pools at this family friendly hotel in Phuket, including a dedicated kids pool with a 55-metre water slide.

The Mafeung & Mafai’s Junior Beach Club and Camp has been designed as an innovative edutainment centre for children aged four to 15 and boasts an awesome indoor/outdoor play area. Its marine-inspired activities encourage the kids to learn more about the local culture and wildlife.

For dining, you can choose from flagship Thai restaurant Mr TomYam with its stunning beach location, Mediterranean Miss Olive Oyl, and breakfast restaurant Locavare.

Other family friendly resorts in Laguna Phuket include:

  • The Banyan Tree Phuket is a good option if you are looking for something smaller and quieter in Phuket with family. This villa only resort still has plenty of family-friendly facilities, including two swimming pools (lap pool and freefrom pool with fun features), tennis courts and a small kids club.
  • The funky Cassia resort includes apartment and loft-style accommodation, including 2-bedroom apartments. Rooms include separate living areas, fully fitted kitchens with microwaves, and balconies.
  • The recently refurbished Dusit Thani Laguna also boasts kids club and playground, watersports centre and pitch & putt course.

Family Resorts in Kamala Beach Phuket

Kamala Beach is one of the best beaches in Phuket for families. It is just a 10-15 minute drive north of infamous party-beach Patong, but a world away in atmosphere.

This beautiful 2-kilometre stretch of white sand offers a relaxed pace of life, with shallow waters for splashing around in and also has a good selection of bars and restaurants serving up local Thai and western food, including Cafe del Mar.

Kamala Beach is also home to some of the best hotels in Phuket for families.

Intercontinental Phuket Resort

The beautiful Intercontinental Phuket Resort has a prime position in the middle of Kamala Beach.

This luxury beachside hideaway has a selection of spacious rooms and suites in addition to stunning 1-3 bedroom villas that are perfect for families.

Kamala Beach Phuket

There are five outdoor swimming pools meaning fun and relaxation time are taken care of, and of course there’s the whole of Kamala Beach on your doorstep too.

There are several onsite restaurants and plenty of local bars and restaurants within a short walk from the hotel too.

Tip: the hotel is divided into two parts: the beachside and mountainside. These two areas are linked via an underground walkway. So consider which area you’d prefer to be before booking your room.

Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach

If you’re looking for a more affordable option right on the beach – the surprisingly stylish Novotel Phuket Kamala Beach on the northern tip of Kamala Beach is another great option.

Just make sure you get a sea-facing room.

Their two-bedroom pool villas are perfect for families and offer direct beach access.

Novotel Kamala Beach Phuket

The pool is not huge, but you have the beach and ocean just a few steps away, and it does have a swim-up bar… There is a small kids club, but it is really not much more than a playroom, so don’t expect it to be a highlight of your kids’ holiday.

The main restaurant Soul Kitchen offers a variety of themed buffet evenings, but our favourite here is their family-friendly rooftop bar, where you can enjoy sunset cocktails and bar snacks and order from the kids menu.

Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort

Located on the hillside at the southern tip of Kamala Beach, with panoramic views over the cove and out to sea, the beautiful Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort is just a 5-minute shuttle bus drive away from the beach and is another kid friendly hotel in Phuket.

The 201 spacious bedrooms and suites at this family resort in Phuket all boast balconies or terraces, while the 12 elegant family friendly deluxe 2-bedroom suites offer large living areas and stunning views through the floor-to-ceiling windows.

The longer-than-Olympic-sized infinity pool is one of the largest in Phuket and is lined with sun loungers from which to admire the view, while a separate kids pool and wading pools surround the Pool House restaurant and Pool Bar.

Indoor kids club Camp Hyatt provides a bright and fun space for kids aged 4-12 to be dropped off to take part in a programme of cultural and educational activities, while there is also a pizza cooking class for kids.

Other options in the Kamala Beach area include:

Family Resorts in Karon Beach Phuket

If you like your beach a bit more lively but aren’t quite ready for the craziness of Patong, then Karon Beach is fun option for where to stay in Phuket with family.

Phuket’s second most developed beach is 3 kilometres long and is lined with resorts, bars and restaurants – although still with a relatively quiet and family-friendly atmosphere perfect for Phuket family holidays.

Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket

The Centara Grand Beach Resort Phuket is a great choice for Phuket family accommodation, if you are looking for facilities galore and plenty of entertainment.

The family friendly facilities are endless at this Phuket family hotel – including an entire water park with meandering lazy river, water slides, swimming pools and waterfalls!

There’s also a children’s pool with waterslide and even a cliff-jumping platform!

The Kids Club is divided into two zones – Camp Safari and E-Zone, to suit both younger and older kids, with a comprehensive selection of games and activities on offer.

And while the kids have fun in the Kids Club, mum and dad can head to the adults-only pool, which comes with swim-up bar, or take some time out at Spa Cenvaree.

Most of the 262 rooms, suites and villas offer the option of one king bed, or two queen beds, which is helpful for families, and you can also request connecting balconies.

The spacious 1- and 2-bedroom villas are also a good option for families, with their generous living areas and plunge pools on the private terrace. There are seven restaurants and bars to choose from, offering the spectrum of world cuisine.

Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort

There is also a huge range of family-friendly facilities at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort, including an archery range, mini-golf and driving range, and squash and tennis courts – not to mention the two enormous oversized swimming pools, one of which measures 60m x 90m!

There’s also an additional smaller lap pool and shallow kids pool, and of course a variety of watersports on offer.

If the kids tire of all that, then the bright and cheerful LM Family Kids Club is a fun place for them to spend some time, with a full programme of activities for 4-12 year olds, including fun and varied options such as paper crafting, ice-cream making and sandcastle sculpting.

The 470 rooms and suites at this family resort in Phuket range from the 37 square metre Deluxe Rooms to one- and two-bedroom Grande Suites and even a Beachfront 4-Bedroom Grande Villa, complete with private lawn, two living rooms and a modern kitchen.

As you would expect of a family resort of this size, dining options abound, with a choice of ten restaurants and bars, featuring Japanese, Thai and Italian cuisines as well as seafood and barbecue buffets. There’s even a fun sports pub with a private karaoke room.

  1. I think, having a lot of sports activities is good for family vacations as a The JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa have. It is much better to play games than to see TVs or laptops.

  2. Thanks Jason – it’s funny how many people have said that about Phuket since I wrote this article! It obviously still has the reputation as a backpacking party place, but really it is a great place for families too.

  5. Hard to decide… going in August with 4 kids (ages 12-17) and looking for authentic, unique, centrally located and close to restaurants, activities, yet great beach hotel. Also considering an all inclusive food and drink package but don’t see options for that…
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Li – I don’t think Phuket really goes into the whole all-inclusive packages as much as some other places. I know Club Med offer this, but I haven’t heard fabulous reviews from people I know who have been there. If you want to be close to restaurants etc then all-inclusive probably not such a great option anyway as the hotels will charge such a premium, when you can eat and drink for so much cheaper in Thailand. I hope you find a great hotel!

  10. Hi, looking to book a hotel for October 2019. Traveling with two teens (12 and 14) who would enjoy some teen-company. Are there any resorts with teen clubs (apart from Club-Med)? I see most recommendations here offer kids club ages 4-12.

    Thank you!
