The Best Family Friendly Hotels in Hong Kong

Here we share our pick of the best family friendly hotels in Hong Kong, taking into consideration location and facilities to ensure you get the most out of your Hong Kong family vacation.

Hong Kong is a fun city to visit as a family. It is busy and bustling and there is a surprising amount of fun things to do in Hong Kong with kids.

Best family hotels in Hong Kong

But of course if you are planning a Hong Kong family vacation, you will want to know what are the best family hotels in Hong Kong. Hong Kong has all the big chain brands of hotels to choose from, in addition to several lesser-known boutique hotels.

Although we lived in Hong Kong for 4 years, we have also visited many times as tourists and so have had plenty of opportunity over the years to check out all these fantastic hotels.

Best Hotel Location in Hong Kong

Ideally when choosing where to stay in Hong Kong with family you will want to be centrally located – either on Hong Kong island or in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon, and close to public transport to make sightseeing easy.

The exception to this is if you are planning to visit Hong Kong Disneyland, and want to make more of your experience by staying overnight in one of the Hong Kong Disneyland hotels, which of course were designed to be some of the best hotels in Hong Kong for families.

So if you are deciding what is the best place to stay in Hong Kong with family, here we give you our pick of the best family hotels in Hong Kong.

Grand Hyatt Hong Kong

Located on the waterfront on Hong Kong Island, the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong offers some of the best centrally located Hong Kong accommodation for families.

This luxury Hong Kong family hotel has a huge range of family friendly facilities, including a 50m outdoor heated pool, kids’ pool and two tennis courts, and is perfect for a family trip to Hong Kong.

There are beautiful landscaped gardens to explore, with waterfalls and fountains – but what we really love about this family hotel in Hong Kong is its sizeable kids playground. Handily located close to the kids’ pool, this definitely makes your life easier if you are staying in Hong Kong with kids.

There is a wide range of restaurants to choose from, including a steakhouse, Chinese, Italian and Japanese.

We also love that all guests are provided with a complimentary smartphone throughout their stay, pre-loaded with city guides and maps to make exploring Hong Kong easy. It even includes all local calls and international calls to select countries (including UK, USA and Australia).

It’s a bit of a walk with small kids to the closest MTR in Wan Chai, but there are plenty of taxis lining up outside the hotel and most sightseeing is just a short ride away.

Island Shangri-La Hong Kong

The Island Shangri-La is another great choice for a luxury family hotel in Hong Kong. All 531 rooms and suites are beautifully decorated, with city/harbour or Peak views, and interconnecting rooms are available.

The hotel has eight restaurants to choose from, including Café TOO, where you will find one of the most impressive breakfast spreads in the city.

If you are visiting Hong Kong with kids during the warmer months, you will appreciate the outdoor swimming pool, ideal for cooling off under the watchful eye of Hong Kong’s famous skyscrapers.

The Island Shangri-La Hong Kong is ideally located above the Pacific Place shopping mall, easily accessible via an elevator.

We think Pacific Place is one of the best areas to stay in Hong Kong with kids as here you have access to not only shops, but also a wide selection of mid-range restaurants, coffee shops and a supermarket.

There is also an MTR station in the basement and trams stop directly outside the mall to take you quickly into Central or to Causeway Bay. Hong Kong Park is just across the road.

What we particularly love about staying at the Island Shangri-La Hong Kong, is the warm hospitality that Shangri-La is so famous for. The warm welcome you receive every time you step through the door makes this one of the best hotels in Hong Kong for a family vacation.

Other family friendly Hong Hotels linked to the Pacific Place mall are the Conrad Hong Kong and the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, both of which have outdoor swimming pools and provide babysitting.

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

Chances are if you are planning a Hong Kong family vacation, you will be planning a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland with kids. Why not complete the experience with a night at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel?

Rooms in this faux Victorian palace are contemporary with Victorian touches, and you can pre-book room decoration packages to make it more fun for the kids.

These packages include themed door and mirror stickers, bed runners, bathrobes and slippers. There is the option of having two double beds in all rooms, to make it easier to house the whole family.

As you would expect, there are plenty of family friendly facilities and activities at this top family hotel in Hong Kong. There are two swimming pools – both indoor and outdoor, including a 40m waterslide in the outdoor pool. There is also an outdoor playground.

Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel

The Storybook Playroom provides plenty of family fun in the shape of games, crafts, toys and puzzles, in addition to a mini theater screening classic Disney movies, and story time with a cast member every evening.

Note that children need to be accompanied, although for ages 6-12 you can pay extra for a ‘playroom buddy’ to watch over them.

Little girls should check out the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where they can indulge in a makeover to be transformed into a Disney Princess.

Even dining is fun at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, with the option to dine with the characters at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the Enchanted Garden restaurant, or enjoy Disney-themed dim sum in the Crystal Lotus restaurant.

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel

Disney’s Hollywood Hotel is the more cost effective option of the two hotels at Hong Kong Disneyland.

As at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, all rooms can be configured with two double beds to be more accommodating for a family stay, and themed room decorations are available if pre-booked ahead of your stay.

Dining with the Disney characters is also available at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel in Mickey’s restaurant during breakfast and dinner, although I have heard that the character experience is better at the Enchanted Garden in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

There is a fun grand piano-shaped outdoor swimming pool with a waterslide, and also Malibu Games, filled with arcade games for the kids.

You do need to buy tokens for the arcade games, but keep a look out for the Free Fun Play for hotel guests at selected times. Guests at Disney’s Hollywood Hotel can also use the Storybook Playroom at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.

Both the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel and Disney’s Hollywood Hotel provide a free shuttle bus to Hong Kong Disneyland every 10-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong

Like all Four Seasons hotels across the world, the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is a fabulous choice for a luxury family hotel.

The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong also boasts a beautiful freeform infinity pool with fabulous harbor views, in addition to a lap pool, so you don’t need to worry about your kids getting in the way of serious swimmers.

Both pools are heated year-round. The pool terrace is the ideal place for a lazy lunch while the kids play, and to get away form the bustle of the city.

The Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong is ideally located for a family vacation, being linked to the IFC mall, where there are plenty of shops and restaurants, and a supermarket.

It is also linked via the mall to the Airport Express station and the Star Ferry pier, and is just a short walk underground to the Central MTR station.

If you are planning to stay at the Four Seasons during your Hong Kong family vacation, be sure to make use of the babysitting service and book a table at one of the hotels Michelin-starred restaurants – French fine dining Caprice, or 3-Michelin starred Chinese restaurant Lung King Heen.
